I guess no one important really cares about lab classes ... and why should they? All the best equipment should go to the real people labs doing real research and blah blah blah. Still, I think that labs should be furnished with functioning equipment ... especially when MY grades suddenly depend on accuracy (yes, accuracy) and not just completion like it has always been. What the f*ck.
In the easiest experiment all semester, we were supposed to calibrate pipets and a peristaltic pump. It would have gone a lot more smoothly if the goddamn balances had been working correctly. Once my balance found its reading, the numbers would slooooowly decrease. Even if it had been tared, and nothing on it was moving, the weight would drop into the negatives. How do you expect me to be accurate with that?
Calibrating the pipet was easy; calibrating the pump was supposed to take me at least 25 minutes and was going to involve 25 separate readings of that goddamned scale. Suddenly, my scale's reading continued to drop rapidly and it refused to reset. So, I moved on to another scale. And then another one. Finally, there were no more scales left for me to try out, since all of the other ones were occupied, so I had to get the GSI to help me out ... with the first experiment. 1)That's just embarrassing 2)I'm not retarded, I know what I'm doing, and 3)GET BETTER SCALES SO THAT YOU DON'T WASTE MY TIME AND YOURS. I was there for an extra hour trying to get these readings. ARGH.
Why. Why is our equipment crap. Why. I hope that the rest of this lab will go better, but somehow, I doubt it.
I hope everyone else who has started school is having a nice time ... haha. See you all later.
