I don't know why, but I absolutely HATE being late. It bothers me so much to know that I am expected somewhere at some time and that it is not going to happen. I hate being that one person who shows up five minutes after class has started. At that point, not only have I missed some of class and will be starting without any background, but I have successfully gotten at least 5% of the class to turn around and scowl at me for coming in late.
I suppose it is a combination of factors. Sometimes, it's because those damned buses don't show up on time. Sometimes it is my reluctance to leave my warm and cozy abode to enter the gloomy and frigid tundra. And the slippery snow-slush-mush-grossness coats the ground thickly doesn't help much either. I hustle and slip and slide to class, and I show up huffing and puffing. Do you think it was my intention to be late? Haha.
If only the lock hadn't FROZEN SHUT.
Ugh. Michigan weather. At least I get to see all four seasons for real, right?
Woohooo, it's snow. Weird sh!t happens with the snow.
I suppose this whole layer of snow started to melt, but refroze while it was melting off of the car ...
Speaking of being late, let's talk briefly about my experiences of brown people and their idea of what is punctual. Brown people are NEVER on time to ANYTHING, and it bothers me SO much. My family, fortunately, is much more punctual than the average brown family, and consequently are almost always the first people to show up to anything (if we are running on time with our own schedule, haha). Hosting a party is such a pain in the a$$ because people will start to show up at least an hour after you told them to come. I know it's just a convention, but maybe it bothers me so much because I'm a brown-white coconut hybrid and I'm used to the American rule of being right on time.
Meh, I know this is probably a more-boring-than-usual post, but I had half an hour to kill before my MCAT class. Whatevs. See y'all later.

ReplyDeleteha ha ha... i think it runs in the family! when you say your family is "almost always the first people to show up to anything ". There were times that I have gone mad because me and my family are the first to arrive at parties! (which is a bit embarrassing at times :-/)
ReplyDeleteThe only conclusion I gathered overtime is that people get late to make the GRAND ENTRANCE AND to get the attention... Let it be a party function or a class!
Hey Melon:
ReplyDeleteThat would be SO irritating ... but for some reason, it happens ALL THE TIME. I seriously DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY. Whatever, I suppose it is just a different mental framework for us and for our super brownie parents.
Hey Prabha:
I am never mad that I am here on time ... just irritated that no one else ever runs on the same schedule! I always end up having to wait forever for some of my friends to finally show up. Grand entrance?! Hahahaha, please, there's not that many people to impress and it's just ... ridiculous and unnecessary. For goodness sake, it's not the red carpet or anything.
