, in the sense that they can be really stubborn and stupid.
Some news-radio station broke the tensed silence between my mother and myself during the drive up to work this morning. Apparently there is a wide scale of mandatory evacuations along the east coast because of the impending destruction of Hurricane Irene. Despite this, there were reports of several people saying that they were going to stay in their homes or still do whatever they want because they didn't want to leave until they absolutely had to (despite the fact that these evacuations are deemed mandatory).
In this country, we are fortunate enough to possess and have access to such wonderful technologies that can help us predict the weather, yet the people here are too stupid to actually pay any attention to it. You aren't being asked to evacuate just because the police feel like knocking door to door and wasting their time and yours. No. You are being asked to evacuate because we think this hurricane will be a bit of a disaster, and people are trying to KEEP YOU SAFE.
Why do people refuse to leave? Do you value your possessions over your life? In that case, you're a dumba$$. Do you just like wasting the time and energy of others, while putting them in danger as well while they make sure/wait for you to leave? In that case, you're still a dumba$$. I don't understand why anyone with half a brain would wait until they were told by officials to leave if they knew about an impending hurricane.
People all over the world have been killed because of such natural disasters. We have technology that can help potentially prevent deaths. Does no one learn anything? What happened to self-preservation? The people on the news-radio this morning who were getting interviewed struck me as particularly idiotic. I know that most people did leave, but for the few who are trying their hardest to stay behind: your stubbornness will bite you in the a$$, and when it does, you totally deserved it.
